Silver, Marcus, and Darius are waiting for me when I reach the edge of the sleepy little city right under the bridge where I’ve told the special ops team to meet me. One message from me and all other matters are put to the side. I appreciate that, and even though Salvatore disagrees, he’s allowed me the time and resources to fully explore the situation with the witches for Delilah’s sake. And I have no doubt he doesn’t want to be blamed for going after the witches with the wrath of the vampire community unless fully warranted, since it’s not a secret that Devora’s been salivating to seek her vengeance at the expense of our leader.

“Thanks for coming. I don’t think this will take long, but when I messaged Salvatore, he thought you should come along.”

“Happy to help,” Marcus says.

“Can you find Lazareth?” I ask Silver.

“I’m getting a lot better at this stuff since I’ve been working with Lucianna. She’s got an incredible gift. It’s like every ghost, spirit, or missing person are drawn to her calling to them.”

I nod. “I’ve heard that. Unfortunately, Overmaster Descallia wasn’t in the mood to lend out his mate today.”

Silver and Marcus both laugh, but Silver’s features soon cloud over as he focuses on the job of finding Lazareth. Marcus is quiet behind him, prepared to look up anything we need for the job.

“The traitor was here recently. But he’s gone. The wind carried him away.”

“He transported?”

Silver nods, but he’s not focused on me; his eyes are closed as he fixates on finding the vampire that I want to put in the ground.

“He was with the witch. She sent him away. He went to a city in North America. Chicago.”

“Do you know what the witch told him, why he was here? Why Chicago?”

“She was telling him what to do, what would happen in the city. It’s like she’s telling him his fortune or something.” Silver scowls, looking up at me. “I’m still relatively new at this. Lucianna would know exactly what they were doing. I can give her a call and see if between the two of us we can get more clarity around what I saw and heard.”

My jaw tightens with aggravation. “Very well. Do that, and in the meantime, I’ll talk to Salvatore, but pack your bags when you get home and be prepared to leave for Chicago in two hours. I have a few things that I need to attend to before then,” I tell them before transporting back to the estate.

I walk in the house, taking the stairs two at a time to our room, anxious to see if Delilah has calmed any from our previous conversations. Only the bedroom is empty. “Bernard,” I roar, racing back down the steps, my hands gliding along the curved banister as I go.

“Sir,” he says, wringing his hands as he comes out of the kitchen. “I tried my best, but she is strong and willful and would not be dissuaded. We had visitors, but the guards and other security you had put in place took care of them.
